REMINDER
TO ALL PARENTS:
To all parents/guardians who will be Field Trip drivers - please meet in
the SCHOOL CAFETERIA so that the noise level does not disturb the rest
of the classrooms. Thank you.
SCHOOL
PUBLICATIONS
The school newsletter "From the Eagle's Nest" is published
weekly. An updated school calendar is published monthly. Classroom
teachers send a weekly newsletter home in folders. The folder is to be
signed by the parent and returned by the student within two days of
receiving it.
NEW
PROJECT AND HELP IS NEEDED
The school is in need of an overhaul of the main building’s
bathrooms. This project includes new stall partitions, toilets, sinks,
faucets and lighting for the girls and boys bathrooms. The cost is
$17,126.00 which includes the cost for labor. We have been very
fortunate that a donation of $2000 has already been given towards this
project. Along with the school’s students these bathrooms are also
used for many events including our parish dinners, funeral dinners,
community use of the building such as the annual dinner auction and
KCHI’s Working Women’s Night Out. If you would like to donate to
this worthy project, place your donation in an envelope marked
“BATHROOMS” in the collection. Let’s see if we can have this
project complete by the start of the 2008 school year or before!
REMINDER TO PARENTS
The teachers are on duty from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If you need to
meet with the teachers, please arrange to do so AFTER these hours. Thank
you to those of you who do pay attention to this request.

AFTER SCHOOL NEWS & NEEDS
The after school is going through some major changes, and we would
like to ask the parishioners to help us. We are asking for donations of
any item listed below to help us replenish our supplies for our
children. Items to be donated: Plastic kitchen food, play doh, cars for
the boys to run on the car rugs, any chapter books (paper back or hard
back) for ages 1st through 5th grades, board games, puzzles, 250 pieces
or more, different colored sharpies, old scraps of material, yarn of any
type and color, inexpensive baby dolls for that mothering instinct and
anything else you might have around that we could give a great home.
Thank you from the ELC and After School.
VOLUNTEERS
We are still looking for volunteers at school this year. Please
call the office with any questions. Lunch hour is from 11:00 to
noon.
THINGS TO SAVE
As most of you are well aware, we need everyone to save their
Campbell Soup Labels, Box-Tops for Education, Tyson A+ Labels,
printer cartridges and their aluminum cans. These projects are very
worth while to the school. Thanks to the many donators or savers
that we have. A special thanks to Dorothy Carlson and Mildred Saale
for coordinating the labels. Without the help of these two ladies,
these programs would not be possible.
LITURGICAL
SCHEDULE -
At Bishop Hogan School, we have an educational program for
children 6 weeks old through 8th grade. Society challenges us to share
with the students the gift of faith we have and to prepare them for high
school and college. We need the support of parents who want a strong
faith based educational school for their children.

Martin
Luther King Day Memorial Program
Only 21/2-months shy of the 40th anniversary of the assassination of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., fifth- through eighth-grade students of Bishop Hogan Memorial School in Chillicothe on Friday held their annual public memorial program in anticipation of today's Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. The program, organized by Mrs. Charlene Thompson, fifth and sixth grade teacher at
BHMS, with music coordinated by Mrs. Mary Garr, the school's music instructor, this year centered around the theme, “He Had A Dream.”

The approximately 40-minute program included several vocal music performances by the school's Eagles Wings choir (above) and short reflections on King's life, faith, and work. The program again featured Charles Epps of Chillicothe (inset, lower left), who gave some reflections and also re-read a portion of King's final public speech, which has come to be known as the “I've Been to the Mountaintop” speech given in Memphis at a sanitation workers rally on April 3, 1968, the night before he was slain outside a Memphis motel. In addition, BHMS sixth grade student Matthew Sturm (inset, lower right) recited an abridged version of the latter portion of King's most famous speech, “I Have a Dream,” given during the August 1963 civil rights “March on Washington.” In addition to the school's students and faculty, an estimated 30-40 parents and other members of the public attended.
THE 35TH ANNUAL MARCH FOR LIFE
This January 22 the 35th Annual March for Life was held in Washington, D.C. Pilgrims have faithfully braved the cold weather every year since 1973 to peacefully and prayerfully protest the Supreme Court decision, Roe v Wade, that legalized abortion on demand in our country. The numbers of pilgrims have steadily increased over the years until today, with close to 100,000 or more gather in front of the White House and march up Constitution Ave to the Supreme Court Building past the Capitol Building. Catholic schools and parishes from all over the country send busloads of pilgrims. The numbers of young people are amazing. Cardinals, Bishops, priests, seminarians, and religious sisters join the laity and pray the rosary, chant and sing along the way. The night before most of these pilgrims join together at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington for Mass that has come to be known as the Rose Mass or Mass to end Abortion.
The huge basilica which holds 3000 is bursting at the seams with standing room only and overflow in the halls, side chapels
and downstairs in the Crypt Church with those participating through closed circuit
TV.
We are thankful to Father Tom for allowing our parish 8th graders the opportunity to experience this faith-building
pilgrimage. Those from our parish attending were: Brian Murrell, teacher; Mary Garr and Mary Mathew, adult chaperones;
Zachary Garr, Jake Mathew, Hunter Keller, Addie Stottlemyre, Stephanie Wade, and Emily Clark, students.
Thank you to the parishioners that have supported us through your donations at our breakfasts and dinner with your free will offerings
and to the Knights of Columbus. Without your help, these young people would miss a very important opportunity
that helps to shape their moral lives.
