Catholic Schools Week
January 29th - February 5th
This is the 39th time that Catholic Schools Week has been held. The fist year was in 1974.
This year, the theme focuses on three priorities that Catholic schools establish that make them stand out from other educational institutions. Children are
taught faith - not just the basics of Christianity, but how to have a relationship with
God. Academics, which in Catholic schools are held to very high standards, help
each child reach his or her potential. Service, the giving of
one's time and effort to help others, is taught both as an expression of faith and good citizenship.
St.
Columban's Columbian Squires
Come join the Saint Columbian Squires on a journey around the world with
exotic foods and the world renowned Catholicism series. It will be a wonderful way
to try new foods while you journey through the Catholic Faith throughout the world.
Tickets are $9.00 each or a season pass can be purchased for $70.00. Tickets
must be purchased in advance and can be purchased in the school office or
online at www.squiresdinner.com.
The first dinner and movie night is Wednesday, March
14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The dinner will be Italian and the
movie will be, "Amazed and Afraid - The Revelation of God Become
Man". -- God Bless, Steve Whitson |

FROM THE
PRINCIPAL JANUARY 27, 2012...
Catholic Schools Week is a celebration for success. We all share in the responsibility of promoting Catholic
education. After all, we are the ones who are there on a daily basis and truly comprehend the treasure of a Catholic
school. What better time is there to share the good news of Catholic education than Catholic Schools Week? This
year's theme is: Catholic Schools: Faith, Academics,
Service. With these five words, the theme expresses what makes our schools stand out in a crowd:
1. In a Catholic school, children learn faith - not just the basics, but how to
have a relationship with God. 2. Students benefit from high academic standards, inspiring each to read his or her
potential. 3. Every child learns the importance of service, as an expression of faith and a mark of good citizenship. We would like invite everyone to come and share in our activities for Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 30-Feb. 3:
1. Various forms of dress throughout the week relating to a theme;
2. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28-29, Father will deliver the homily relating to our theme and select students to perform the various Mass duties;
3. All school Spelling Bee - Jan. 31, 2:00 5/6 grade serve, eat with the patrons, and clean up at House of Prayer for community service, Jan. 31;
4. Wed., Feb. 1, City and County Officials Luncheon; 5. Thurs., Feb. 2: Jeans for Food Day, bring
non perishable food for our ongoing food drive at BHMS and wear jeans, Science Fair, grades 3-8, PTO meeting,

Party (PTO), 2:30, all school; 7. Decorate store windows with our theme, market BHMS and preschool all week;
