SOME PAST AUCTION HIGHLIGHTS... 2011 DINNER AUCTION... Saturday, April 30, 2011 - 8th Annual Bishop Hogan
Event Tops $52,000 for School
The "California Gold Rush" Auction featuring "The Lonesome Dove Rangers" (Mike Miller Auction Service) at Bishop Hogan’s annual dinner auction Saturday evening brought in $2,350 for the top item of a Kansas City Royals suite for one game donated by FEC. The hallway, gymnasium and classrooms of Bishop Hogan Memorial School took on a western atmosphere as the school hosted its eighth annual dinner and auction Saturday night with the theme "Happy Trails." The entry way was appropriately decorated with a wooden fence and cowboy hats, and a balloon entry way led to the gymnasium where dinner was served and a live auction took place. Prior to the meal, guests meandered through the hallway and classrooms where they could place bids on hundreds of items up for sale in the silent auction. After dinner, the live auction took place. The event benefits Chillicothe's only Catholic school and this year's dinner and auction brought in $52,300 through table sponsorships and the auctions. Money raised pays for the direct operational costs of the school and funds about 12 percent of its operating expenses, according to Father Tom Hermes, principal of Bishop Hogan School and pastor of St. Columban Catholic Church. More than 315 people attended Saturday's event, and there were 34 table sponsors - with all tables available for sponsorship being taken. Generosity from the donors as well as the bidders flowed freely throughout the evening. "With the economy not as robust as in the past, people are still extremely generous with both their donations as well as those who came and purchased the items that were auctioned," Hermes said. From the decorations and the table sponsors to the auctioneering and bidders, Hermes said he appreciated all the hard work in the preparation for the evening. He made special mention of Hy-Vee Food Store, which donated and fully catered the meal. "We always have a great time," he said, noting that the event traditionally attracts people from a large cross section of the community. "They are not just Catholics, but all members of the community and that is a great event to see." The top item sold was the use of a Kansas City Royals suite for one game. The item was donated by Farmers Electric Cooperative and sold for $2,350. 2010 DINNER AUCTION... Saturday, May 1, 2010 - 7th Annual Dinner Auction BISHOP

Dinner Auction Raises $70,000
C-T Photo / Paul Sturm "The generosity of the people was astounding to me.” Tom Hermes, pastor To say that the third annual dinner auction for Bishop Hogan Memorial School Saturday evening was a success may be somewhat of an understatement. The event, which is the largest annual fund-raiser the school holds netted $70,000 - a whopping $20,000 more than the amount raised during last year's installment. Father Tom Hermes said he was more than surprised by the dinner auction's success. “It more than exceeded my expectations,” Hermes said, adding, “The generosity of the people was astounding to me. The support for the school in this community is great.” He attributed the night's success to the hard work of the event's organizers and volunteers and the sheer excitement surrounding the auction. “This being my first year here I noticed a great mixture of people from throughout the community and a great deal of generosity from the store owners and contributors in the community,” Hermes said. Over 300 people attended the event, which featured a silent auction, a catered dinner and a live auction with Col. Mike Miller and David May. The theme was “Evening With the Stars.” Some of the highly sought after items on the live auction proved to be the coin collections donated by Father Larry Spiechienger, a former pastor at St. Columban Catholic Church, a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks and a catered dinner at the church rectory for three couples with Bishop Robert Finn, Bishop of the Kansas City and St. Joseph Diocese. The event started at 5 p.m. with the silent auction and continued with the dinner and live auction which featured 84 items - the last of which sold at around midnight. All funds raised through the event go into the school's general operations fund. |
